What is the difference between a Private Tour and a Custom Tour?

A custom tour is, by definition, a private tour—but with a personalized twist. Rather than simply reserving one of our regular itineraries for your group, we customize the experience to match your preferences. Whether it’s upgrading hotels, focusing on food and wine, adjusting the difficulty of hikes, or extending the length of the tour, we’ll work with you to make it uniquely yours.

Over the years, we’ve designed countless custom tours, often using our existing itineraries as a foundation. But we also love venturing into new territory! If you have a destination in mind that’s not part of our regular offerings, don’t hesitate to reach out. Chances are, we’ve already explored the region—and we may even have the beginnings of an itinerary ready to go.

To spark your imagination, here are a couple of examples of custom tours we’ve  recently created for some of our guests:

Wild Basilicata
A group of adventurous and experienced riders wanted to really get off the beaten track and cover some terrain, so we developed a "Wild Basilicata" tour for them where we took them into the remotest parts of the region. Rather than our usual two night stay, they wanted to cover ground so we had a series of one night stays, culminating at a gorgeous wine resort. Special events included a cooking course, a wine tasting, and a guided visit of old Taranto. To create this tour we spent a full ten days in the region driving all the routes, finding, the hotels, restaurants, and special events. 
 

Culinary Vespa tour of Tuscany
This was an easy custom job, our home base is in Gaiole in Chianti. We tweaked our usual itinerary by adding cooking courses, winery visits, and tastings with wine makers to satiate our groups interest in all things culinary.
